Shetu-Fio Foundation for Basic Education and Sports (SHEFFBES) has organized a spelling bee competition and football games at Kparigu Educational Circuit in the North East region.
Speaking after the program, the Executive Director of Shetu-Fio Foundation for Basic Education and Sports (SHEFFBES), Lawyer Ishaq Ibrhim expressed his gratitude to the pupils, teachers and parents of schools in the Kparigu Educational Circuit for their role in the success of the just ended football games and Spelling bee competition.
The two day successful programme was organized at Kparigu, a community in the West Mamprusi Municipality, by Shetu-Fio Foundation for Basic Education and Sports (SHEFFBES).
The programme had the attendance of 12 primary schools and 8 Junior High Schools.
It all started with football matches by the Junior High Schools on the 11th March, 2020 which saw Shelinvoya JHS lifting the trophy.
The program was climaxed with a spelling bee competition of the 12 primary schools in the Kparigu circuit where Issifu Abdul Karim from Sagadugu primary School won the Best Speller.
He went home with a laptop worth Gh¢4000, a set of mathematical instruments and a star plaque. The mentor who trained the best speller also went home with a laptop and a plaque of best teacher award. The mother and father of the best speller were also awarded a fabric and a wall clock respectively.
In his speech, the Executive Director of SHEFFBES, Lawyer Ishaq Ibrhim said that he has a lot of emphasis on promoting basic education as it builds a strong foundation for the future of pupils education.
He further added that girl child education should be promoted adequately as well, and quoted a renowned educationist in the 17th century, Dr. Kwagyir Aggrey who said, ‘’if you educate a male you educate and individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a nation’’.
Lawyer Ishaq also expressed his worry for not seeing a female pupil excel to the finals, and entreated everybody to lay much emphasis on girl child education.
He mentioned that henceforth, teachers that train overall winners (mentors)of the spelling competition shall get the opportunity of traveling abroad to learn on methods of teaching a month and come back and impart that knowledge on pupils and teachers of their schools and other schools.
Dignitaries present at the program were the representative of the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Nasamu, Municipal Sports Director, Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Wonders (Event Committee Chairman), Madam Sabratu (SHEFFBES Programs Coordinator), Mr. Mashud Yalsuma the sports Coordinator of SHEFFBES, Judges led by Mr. Thomas, SHEFFBES officials, Kpanaa (chief of kparigu),Team Ishaq, headmasters and teachers of Kparigu A and B Primary and JHSs, the able men of Kparigu who came out to help in diverse ways, the coordinator of Kparigu electoral area, Sports teachers, Football officials.
Shetu-Fio Foundation for Basic Education and Sports (SHEFFBES) is a Ghanaian registered Non-governmental, non-profit organization with the primary aim of augmenting government’s effort in building a strong foundation for children at basic school, especially in the Mamprugu Traditional area.
